View RecordsNew York DMV provides driver-record abstracts, but the record type and requester determine what can be obtained.
New York DMV says driver records contain convictions, suspensions, revocations and accidents within applicable retention rules. DMV permits a person to request their own record and permits requests for another person only under the permissible-use process described on form MV-15C.
| Record | Use | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard driving abstract | Current retained driving-history summary | Retention rules affect how far back entries appear |
| Lifetime driving record history | Broader own-record history | Special requester restrictions apply |
| Commercial (CDL) abstract | Your commercial-driver record | Choose the product the receiving organization requests |
| Another person’s record | Permitted-purpose request | Requester must satisfy the DMV permissible-use process |
The lifetime abstract request instructions state that DMV can provide that history to the individual whose name is on the record, with separate authorization requirements for another requester.
Choose Standard, Lifetime or Commercial (CDL). The online abstract costs $7 and reflects the record when ordered; save or print the PDF within five days of purchase.
Use MyDMV/NY.gov sign-in or the DMV’s no-account transaction. Have your client ID, latest document number, date of birth, DMV address state/ZIP and last four SSN digits ready. Without the required NY document, use Records Request Navigator; allow five business days for processing. A Standard abstract is also available at a DMV office with MV-15C, proof of identity and $10.
Review convictions, suspensions, revocations and accidents shown. Contact the DMV Call Center if you believe the abstract is incorrect.
Use the official record format requested by the receiving organization.
MV-15C explains that driver records do not simply list ticket records as a category.
